Westbrook savours breaking long-standing triple-double record

12 febbraio 2019 12:27

Russell Westbrook reflected on sealing a historic 10th consecutive triple-double in the Oklahoma City Thunder's victory over the Portland Trail Blazers as "an unbelievable moment".

Eight-time NBA All-Star Westbrook eclipsed Wilt Chamberlain's long-standing record of nine consecutive triple-doubles in another inspired display on Monday.

Westbrook was given a standing ovation when he achieved the feat by laying on an assist for Paul George in the final quarter of a 120-111 win.

The 2016-17 MVP savoured the moment in a contest which he finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists.

"Definitely an unbelievable moment," Westbrook said. "I don't know, because honestly, bro, I know what I'm capable of doing, and I just go out and compete and whatever happens, happens, man.

"I never even dreamed of playing in the NBA or standing here talking to you guys. So, each moment is a blessing for me. Each time I get to walk into this locker room and see my name up there, it's a blessing for me.

"That's an unbelievable moment in of itself. Just to be able to wake and be able to have a job, have a jersey, have a name on your back, because to me that's a blessing itself and something I never even dreamed about as a kid."

Westbrook and Paul George also made history by becoming the first team-mates in NBA history to achieve a 20-point triple-double in the same game.

George poured in a magnificent 47 points, laid on 10 assists and took 12 rebounds.
