Yankees slugger Stanton shut down for 7-10 days

23 maggio 2019 01:15

New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is facing a week to 10 days on the sidelines due to injury.

The Yankees pulled Stanton from his minor-league rehab assignment because of left calf tightness, it was announced on Wednesday.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Stanton will be shut down for at least a week.

It is just the latest injury setback for the 29-year-old outfielder, who has not played since March 31.

Stanton went on the injured list April 1 with a bicep strain, and then dealt with a shoulder issue that required a cortisone injection.

A four-time All-Star and 2017 National League MVP, Stanton had just been sent to the Yankees Single-A affiliate in Tampa on Monday to begin a rehab assignment.

Stanton had a history of injuries earlier in his career but had been remarkably durable the past couple of seasons, playing in all but seven games the last two years. He hit 38 home runs and had 100 RBIs and a .852 OPS in his first season with the Yankees in 2018.
